KQIX Project shuts down

I've been thinking about what we should do as a community if it becomes absolutely clear that KQIX is not going to see the light of day in the foreseeable future.

I would hope very much that we can come together, as we did for the anniversary earlier this year, to celebrate good memories of brighter days when we could almost smell the air surrounding the Land of the Green Isles without any of the trepidation or disappointment that we have all felt in one form or another in the past couple of months. It would also be my earnest wish that this fan community would remain intact to herald the next Phoenix Online Systems project, in whatever form that may take.

Whatever the outcome of the current situation, we all owe the team a tremendous debt of gratitude for inviting us to take this journey with them, unsure of just where we would all end up.

Phoenix Online Studios has plans to continue, wether it would be with KQIX and/or a new project, the future is still uncertain hence everything is still being discussed, the VU input is obviously important to what's going to happen at the moment, so, that's why we haven't set everything on stone yet. Either way, those words are truly inspiring for POS team, because we appreciate the support and the fan effort so far, specially in situations like this when things don't seem to be so great for anyone, we just hope things till turn out alright, we're still waiting too. Regardless of this outcome, I don't believe the community would break apart, in fact, if we move on to new projects it shall grow eventually

I would like to propose a toast. To POS. They had this "storm" hit them the hardest and sure it hit all of us fans hard too but not as much as them. I know in my heart that they will never give up on (any) projects they have and one day (if KQIX isn't already out) you will recieve the rights to King's Quest in the mail or something from an awesomeasapossum, or a Jafar, or a Rosella, or even a Guest whose post count is 1! Of course we'll probably use our real names but I'll still include awesomeasapossum. I know that noone will have to do this though because KQIX will come out soon! So just remember that guys. POS we all love you! Good luck!

None taken, but you also should know better than that. First of all, I didn't say any of that neither I have the need to, one thing I'm actually known for is speaking my mind, I do not believe in selling lies  or neither saying anything between lines, so stop asuming that I would. If I said we're waiting is because it's not over, and if I haven't said anything at all about VU negotiations is because I can't reveal anything yet, that doesn't mean what you expressed, sorry.

I tried to do something NICE and express that IT IS indeed not over (for the community that is as the previous poster stated), and those thoughts were inspired for TribeHasSpoken and his latest post, maybe I shouldn't have said anything if I even remotely thought anyone could have taken it like that, my bad. I shall restrain to do that, otherwise people will continue to pick up things "between lines" that they're absolutly not there.

Sorry for those who do read my posts and appreciate that I post here, even though I can't say enough yet, I thought I said as much as I could at the moment. I guess I should just not do it as it goes for now, I certainly don't want to be misunderstood and SPECIALLY about such important matter.

Quest For The King

I can imagine a James Bond like 'hero/detective' (that could actually be King Graham's grand-grand-son) living now-a-days and his quest would be to travel throught the world and different ages in order to free King Graham from Vivendi's Evil Hands, Roberta and Ken Williams might even appear in this quest...

The only trade-mark would be King Graham name & personage as VUG would only be implicit, not explicit...

It might be a great adeventure game if well done, don't you think ?
It could merge a totaly new story but reviving old moments; and most of all, it would be more related to the KQ's Series than KQ8:MOE ever was. And wouldn't break copyrights, as it would only use 'a legal fare use' of King Graham of Daventry.

I know it is a totally new project but it could make fans happy (as it includes the Royal Familly) and open up to a whole new serie...

But, as many of you, I'd rather play the original KQIX

What do you all think about this crazy idea ?

I've been asking the following question:

What exactly C & D letter and what it trying to accomplish?

It make sense that such letter can only deal with copy rights with Name and other things.

I strongly believe that such letter is not in the position to prevents you guy in doing other games same genre.

With all suggestions given so far in name, graphics and other changes, I believe it should be possible by taking paragraph above into considerations while things clear up with KQIX.

I am not certain any company or corporation can demand you stop development of something that hasnt been released publickly, also given the fact that the development is being done by persons on thier own time, nor employees of the offending corporation. If I want to invent a better GE lightbulb, GE cant stop me from working on the "development" of this lightbulb. They may be able to keep me from releasing this "Better Bulb" if it uses a patented technology, but they cant send a lawyer to my garage to tell me to stop development of the idea. You are not using any of thier technology or programming, so you should be able to continue your work.

Along with the others out here, I will help you find a viable solution. It could be that vivendi doesnt want you to make money from their technology, which you arent using!

I sent a particularly nasty letter to Vivendi, calling them spiritually and morally bankrupt corporate businessmen whose empty cubicle-slave driving lives are only stimulated by dollar signs, and what not.  Though I'm sure it was as equally if not more ineffective as everyone elses. 

Also thought I'd just say that I always thought that KQIX should have either not had a number in the title at all or had just been named Kings Quest 8.  It's not like the number 8 was ever actually metioned at all in Mask of Eternity.  It certainly didn't need the IX in the title to give it a sense of quality or whatnot, the screenshots would have been enough.

I'm really not sure if that will do anything to help KQIX, that's why I stopped doing that a while ago. Calling them 'morally corrupt with no sense of ethics' or the like makes them think we act like spoiled children who don't get sweets. The best thing we could do would be to sign and send the a petition, and asking nicely for them to reconsider. Seeing as how KQIX brings them nothing whatsoever since the number of people who would buy the game are around one-thousand, but probably not more than that. Also that number is nothing close to the 3000 that all the other KQ's brought in. I still don't know why they're bothering with us.

The Villians United Group (V.U.G.) has taken every single bit of imagination and creativity on everybody's mind releasing terrorists (that call themselves "Action-FPS") and jailing old school heroes as Roger Wilco, King Graham, Gabriel Knight, and many others, in order to take over the world...

Everything was coming according to their plans but they didn't count on King Graham's skills... He was just about to escape VUG's cells when he received a letter from VUG's leader to inform him that they exercize complete dominion on the world, so even if escaping, there wouldn't be much to do anymore...

The world was becoming stressed, angry, false... But an ultra-secret intelligence agency named Fantastic Adventurers and Nano Secrets (FANS) came out of nothing. This agency would be led by ex-Detective Sony Bond (Police Quest)'s nephew, Bond, Johansen Bond.
The agency concludes that the only way to save the world is giving people a hope and this hope would be freeing the best hero of all times: King Graham of Daventry, so he could join FANS and rescue every other heroes.

Johansen Bond would travel through the world, through ages and time... the Williams, the 'two guys from andromeda', Daryl F. Gates and Al Lowe might be helping J. Bond to find VUG's HQ a eventualy free King Graham of Daventry.

This would obviously open the doors for a sequel...

I'm not so sure how well that would work as an Adventure game. Might be better as a 2D Action game (such as LEC Killer)

Don't mention it. I'm sure the team knows it has the constant support of the more dedicated members of the fan community (those whose posts number into the thousands), but those who are perhaps more casual fans/observers probably haven't been so vocal in our support. I thought I'd do my part to remedy that.

Hey i have been reading and talking to people and i have coem to the conclusion that we need to make a deal with vivendi give up or lastly go to court. Heres is the good news though if we pick the jury with lots of kqix fans.... we could win this!!! it all depends on who we chose for the jury!
