That's where the servers are for you to download them from. Theoretically, the closer the server is to your location, the less distance the file has to travel and thus the faster it will transfer.

For all interested:

Here is a comment i made on the VU forums *soon to be baned im sure*

For you! ;D

Introduction:
I am the owner of a small independent game development company.
I learned the KQIX team (which I had been following for about a year), got a C&D, from VU, so in addition to writing a few letters of discontent (which I'm working on) I decided to voice my opinion here too.
Apparently the mods have clamped down on the topics that can be said here (private forum, understandable), so it seems I'll only have one shot at this, Here goes.
Down to business:
So VU isn't making any more KQ games, fair enough.
It's been about 9 years since KQ8 (which was a huge disappointment) was released, and no one has said boo about the KQ Intellectual Properties.
Sooo...
A nice bunch of people come together and begin to develop a continuation to where KQ left off.
But VU cant have that! God forbid they have someone out there making a FAN GAME, based on IP that they bought, and releasing it for FREE.
Whatever would they do? They have done such a GREAT job of protecting and cultivating the KQ IP, it would be horrible for them to let some upstarts think they can just come along and make a continuation.
I totally understand why VU can't let this happen, because they have their head, stuck so far in the sand, that they cant let a couple thousand fans, enjoy a group's take on Kings Quest, least it destroy the IP and dilute the trademark. boo hoo hoo.
Well maybe an influx of people protesting will wake you up.
I am a devout fan of the adventure genre, and as for your re-release of the classics, I, and everyone I know that might care, won't purchase them.
We deserve better than re-fried adventure games, only resurrected to try and squeeze a few more drops out of the franchise.
And if you do decide to develop another KQ game, call Roberta Williams, I don't think we can trust the IP to anyone else to be frank.
123 ban!

Don't take it too personally if the moderators at Vivendi's forums are locking and/or deleting your threads. They have a rule about fan-games not being allowed to be discussed there, so they're just trying to enforce that rule.

I'd say they're trying to not go crazy :P

Has anyone received a response from Vivendi (to their emails)? I am just wondering if I should be expecting one.

Sent a letter to the e-mail address for starters:

To Whom It SHOULD Concern:

My name is Raymond Jacobs,
I am the owner of a small independent game development, and a fan of the Kings Quest series.

I had been following the development of KQIX for about a year, greatly anticipating it's release this winter.

If it had been VU publishing this game I would have paid for it, top dollar too, I own every KQ game ever made and love them all. I was already very upset that Sierra had been gobbled up into a large entity and of course the adventure genre has all but died out.

However when I realized that your company, which legally owns the KQ Intellectual Properties; and seems to be doing little with it, save for re-releasing some re-fried versions of the classics. Lays down a big Cease and Desist on Phoenix Freeware Online, because they were a bunch of indie-developers trying to make a FREE continuation of the kings quest series, to please the FANS of the IP you own.

Not to try and undermine you or the KQ IP, but because a continuation does not exist, just because the IP has been sold does not mean it is the end of the KQ story.

I understand you need to 'protect' your IP and Trademarks, the same as any other, but it is apparent that there are people who still want Kings Quest, and go to great lengths to get it. (Developing a game in your spare time, is a great length, trust me, I know.)

So here is my pledge to you as a consumer:

Either let KQIX be released, or release another KQ game of your own accord.

Or, you can consider me a lost customer, and I will strive to turn any I may meet through telling of this tale of misused power.

Will this hurt your bottom line? Likely not.

But it seems money is the only thing you'll listen to. So, I am protesting with my money.

Sincerely,

Raymond Jacobs
